How Does Generation X Measure Success?

What is generation X? Gen Xer’s are those people who were born in the years between 1965-1980. They are also known as baby boomers or members of The Silent Generation, due to their taciturn nature. Some say that they are too focused on work and money to enjoy life outside of work, but we can definitely disagree with that perception.

Generation X was never considered the “younger” generation. That title goes to millennials because they were always one year younger than older generations. It is important to note though that while young adults today may seem like the most dedicated workers, this isn’t true for all time periods.

In fact, there have been many studies done showing that productivity has steadily decreased over the past few decades. This includes things such as extended working hours, increased use of technology for job tasks, and less emphasis on teamwork and relationships. All of these factors contribute to why some believe that employees are staying later at work and taking longer breaks because they feel obligated to keep the workplace running smoothly.

There is clearly more pressure than ever before to produce results and keep up with deadlines. This doesn’t leave much room for personal activities unless you include them into your work schedule, which many people don’t.

Success in your relationships

As we mentioned before, being successful in relationships is more than just having a good time together and sharing each other's money. It is realizing that there are two separate individuals with their own dreams and aspirations, and making sure they both succeed at them.

Successful generation x’ers know how to balance work and life. They don't feel the need to combine the two because they believe it will take away from what they want to do next.

They understand that you can’t always have what you want, and that things won’t stay the same forever. Therefore, they strive for happiness in the moment and hope that something better comes along later.

Successful gen-x’rs are not focused on getting as much out of this experience as possible, but rather seeking out experiences that make them happy and helping them achieve their goals.

Success in your finances

The defining characteristic of an “X-Generation” person is their desire to have success and enjoy their life, not just survive. They want to fulfill themselves by living a meaningful life, investing in relationships, and achieving things that matter to them.

Success for this generation isn’t measured only in money but also in personal growth and development. These individuals are more focused on developing skills than having big bonuses or owning a boat.

They believe you can always learn something new and succeed without being rich. A few years ago, people might have thought that succeeding as an adult means getting a college degree and working hard for the rest of your life, but today it is different.

It doesn’t even need to be about going to school anymore. Because technology makes education accessible anywhere, there is no longer such a thing as an outdated job. If someone with our generation could do anything, they would choose to teach others how to do it because they know it will make them feel good.

This is why many successful men are called mentors – they help other guys grow through teaching them professional lessons. There are plenty of opportunities out there for these professionals to offer their knowledge and expertise to others.

If you're an "adult" (meaning over 18) student, then you should definitely look into scholarships and tuition discount codes! Find one that fits you best and use it to pay for school costs.

Success in your health

Being generation Xer myself, I have to agree that having enough sleep is probably one of the most important things you can do for success.

We are always on-go-ing, constantly working, putting in long hours at work and staying up late to meet deadlines. It feels like we’re running on no sleep!

And while it may feel good in the short run, this lack of sleep eventually catches up with us.

Research shows that people who get less than six hours of sleep per night are likely to experience weight gain and obesity.

Sleep deprivation also raises blood pressure and stress levels, which can contribute to diabetes. In fact, studies show that sleeping less than five hours per night increases your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by 50 percent.

Given all these risks, it makes sense to strive for eight or more hours of sleep every day. This is an easy goal to achieve if you set aside time before bed for activities such as reading or watching TV.

Success in your happiness

What does it mean to be successful as an adult? This is a difficult question to answer, but there are some things we can look at to get a sense of what it means for people around you.

First, let’s talk about success according to “normal human beings.” Normies want more money, a better house, and/or bigger cars than they have. They want their kids to do well in school and feel good about themselves.

This is how most generations define success. The Boomers wanted this and even taught us so! But now that they are retiring, it looks like they were wrong.

Generation Xers actually seem to be having less satisfying lives than previous ones. According to research conducted by University professors, Gen-Xer men report being happier than both Baby Boom men and Men from earlier generations.1

Why might young adults be experiencing lower levels of contentment?

They may feel overworked and stressed out due to higher demands on their time from work and family. Many are also struggling with debt and poor job prospects because of a lack of education and experience.

These factors make it harder to enjoy life and increase stress. Overwhelming stress can affect sleep quality, which contributes to poorer overall health.2,3

Fortunately, there are ways to improve your level of wellness and productivity. Here are 9 tips to help you achieve this and find greater personal satisfaction.

Success in discovering your passion

Finding your passion is one of the most important things you can do as an adult, especially given that the world is becoming more connected every day.

If you are not sure what your passion is, then it is time to find out.

Many successful people were not always successful, but after enough time passed, they realized something was missing from their lives. They noticed it when they would be doing something that they loved and felt passionate about, and then they could not go down any other path.

This feeling is externalized when we refer to this as being “happy” with yourself or your life. It is knowing that you gave your all in everything you did and achieved results that matter to you.

It is knowing that you left a good impression on others and that they think highly of you. This seems very superficial, but it makes a big difference.

At the end of the day, it is how you feel about yourself, and if you are not happy with yourself, you will likely never be truly content. You will want more, constantly seeking greater achievements and rewards.

Success in relaxation

In addition to success at work, social engagement, spending time with family, and other integral parts of life that you can add into your schedule, generation X members consider being successful people who enjoy living their lives as successful.

They believe that being happy is more important than being rich or famous. You will find many young professionals in this group. They may not have much money, but they feel content with what they have and how they live their lives.

Many generations before them believed the same thing, but there are two reasons why today’s youth doesn’t. First, the media pumps out messages telling us we should want lots of things, so most kids learn it's okay to be focused on getting more and bigger things.

Second, when adults tell teens about retirement savings, inheritance, and health insurance, they often use terms like “you don't deserve it” or “You won't get anything back from these things later.” This leaves some impressionists that dreams are impossible — even for wealthy people.

However, this isn't true! It is possible to lead a peaceful, happy life after saving enough money to retire and pay off all debts.

How? By practicing relaxation every day. Learning how to relax takes practice, but once you do, you'll spend your energy relaxed and able to sleep well at night, and hopefully soon feeling relaxed and confident about yourself and the world around you.

Success in gaining knowledge

In this era of technology, there is always something new to learn. With each passing day, we are exposed to more concepts and information than ever before. This is what it means to gain knowledge – exploring all these different ideas and learning how to use them.

This generation was never truly educated, the term “educated” has vanished completely. We have been trained since childhood to assume that education is important, but not why it is important.

It is because society says it is! But now that society has become so technologically advanced, educating people no longer makes sense. Technology already does most things very well.

Education should be about helping others understand how to make the best use of technological tools, not teaching vague generalizations that will soon go out of style.

Success as an adult comes from many different sources- self-confidence, social skills, money management, etc.- but none of these things matter if you don’t know how to apply yourself to whatever task you set your hand to.

That is where generations past us could lose some of their luster. If you look at someone who was born in the 1980s, they may feel that life is too easy for those people, but also that they are not trying hard enough.

Success in networking

how does generation x measure success

As we discussed, being a good networker is more than just having lots of contacts. It’s not only about how many people you know, but also what kind of person these individuals are and whether or not you can be a friend to them.

Success as a generation depends heavily on success in other areas for individual members. This includes things like getting a job they want, improving their career by moving up the ladder, receiving praise for doing an excellent job, etc.

If someone goes out of their way to help you, it sets off warning signals that there might be something going on beyond business relationships.

It’s your responsibility as a member of Generation Xerox to look for these signs and either take action or avoid interacting with those people.

The trick is knowing when enough is enough and when you need to cut ties. Hopefully this article will teach you some tips on how to identify successful connections and how to keep yourself protected.
