THIS Is How To Check SEO Ranking Of A Website

Search engine optimization, more commonly known as SEO, is a process of having your website appear first in line when content related to your website is searched for using search engines like Google, Bing and DuckDuckGo.

But it's not all about websites. SEO can also be used for other content like videos. YouTube for example, is a search engine and if you're a content creator, you're probably going to want to have your videos appear up front when keywords related to your video are searched.

So if you're trying to get your content in front of more people and get more traffic, knowing where you rank now is useful. In this article, we'll be walking you through how you can find out the SEO ranking of your website.

Choose a tool

Use google page speed

To check where your website is, whether it's made the cut for the first page or it's buried in deep in the second, third pages or even beyond, you're going to have to use an online tool. Usually it's a website and there is an array of those.

The most popular tool is Google Search Console and this comes as no surprise as Google is the biggest search engine of them all. But the Google Search Console isn't the only way you can check the SEO ranking of a website.

There are plenty others like Semrush, Ahrefs, AccuRanker and more. These third-party tools have a similar setting which we'll walk you through after showing you how to check SEO ranking using Google Search Console.

Google Search Console

Search for " www.example.com " in your web browser

As we've just told you, the Google Search Console tool is a very popular one. It's made by the guys at Google themselves. To access this tool, you're obviously going to need a Google account, which comes with not only the Search Console but with other useful tools that will help you out with your website.

After you've signed up, you'll be brought to the dashboard which includes the whole catalog of other apps and tools by Google, you'll have to click on Search Console.

If you already have an account, you can access Search Console using this link. After you've arrived at the homepage, navigate to the upper left menu and select the domain/website you'd like to check the SEO ranking for, then head over to search results. And voila!

You'll see a whole bunch of stats and numbers that show you where you rank. How many impressions and clicks you've got, your average position and which keywords had your website ranking higher are all there. When you scroll down a little, you'll find some 4 tabs entitled Queries, Pages, Titles and devices.

To check out which keywords have been pushing you up, click on the Queries tab and that's it. Pretty simple, huh?

Semrush, Ahrefs and others

Repeat steps 2 and 3 until you have checked all pages relevant to seo ranking

We've told you in the tools section that the other third-party rank checking tools have pretty much the same process.

Other than Google Search Console, Semrush is another well-known tool to check out SEO ranking. But that's not all it does. It not only helps you measure where you stack up against competition but it also has functionalities that help you boost traffic, helps in topic research, social media management and more.

Ahrefs is a similar one-stop shop for all things SEO and it boasts mega-corporations like Netflix, Uber, Facebook among others as clients. Of course, you'll have to sign up to either before being able to use the services.

After you're all set up, head over to the overview window and enter the website the ranking of which you're trying to look up. There's a search bar where you're going to enter the domain name at the top left of the overview window. After you've clicked on the search button, all the good stuff will appear - impressions, clicks, position etc.

There's another search bar just below where you put in the domain name. You can use that search bar to search for keywords and see how well the website ranked after a search using that keyword.

Monitor your website's health

Knowing and also continuously monitoring your ranking is important, it's just like the adage - what gets measured, gets managed.

If you're on the first page and your average position is within the top 5, then you can put your foot off the gas or continue with the same pace. If you're somewhere back in the 5th page, then it's about time you took a look at your SEO strategy and adjusted course.

At this point, you might be wondering if the tools we told you about are free. Well, yes and no. The Google Search Console is a free tool and there are no payments, while you'll have to pay a subscription fee for Ahrefs and Semrush. Before committing make sure to check out other similar free tools and decide accordingly.
