I think there's some sense in which this applies to marketers. That is, sometimes we make poor decisions with respect to marketing strategies because we're too focused on what feels right at the time.

We may also be reluctant to adopt new approaches because we fear what people will say or do to us. This is particularly true for marketers who are sometimes labeled as "social media snobs" or "elitist" due to the popularity of certain tools.

But these types of practices aren't social nor elitist. In fact, they can only improve your market position through engagement. And we all know that a well-rounded person usually wins out over someone who doesn't put much effort into developing his or her skills.
