Writing is an art

That’s because writing is a process that takes practice. There are no shortcuts or magic tricks that will make your words write themselves.

You will need patience and this includes having enough time and ability to work alone and be self-motivated.

It also doesn’t mean that you should spend hours every day writing; it means that you should set time limits in order to achieve good results.

And lastly, don’t forget about editing and proofing your work. That way, you can avoid making major grammar mistakes and keep your audience from getting bored.

Use active voice

The active voice is speech in which the pronoun “I” does not appear, while the passive voice has no “I”.

For example, instead of saying “The ball was thrown by someone else’s hand”, you would say “Someone threw the ball” to use the active voice.

In contrast, the passive voice makes room for interpretation regarding who or what caused something to happen: “The book was read by someone else” vs. “John read the book” (interpreted as John caused the book to be read).

As another example, consider the sentence, “They combined several ingredients with their hands.” In the active voice version, we have “They put together several things with their hands”, whereas the passive voice has them “mixing using their hands”.

It may seem arbitrary at first, but there are advantages to the active voice. One is that it is more natural. We speak in the active voice because we act in the world. We know people do things themselves; they don’t just wait around to be helped by others.

Another advantage is that the listener can better understand whom or what the subject is — in this case, the writer. A writing style that uses the active voice often helps readers find out who did what, when, where, why, and how.

Limit grammatical errors

One of the biggest mistakes that new copywriters make is to limit themselves to writing good, but not great. People write what they know; however, learning how to adapt your writing to the level of an audience is one of the most important things you can do as a writer.

Your topic needs to be relevant to your reader’s life. However, regardless of your audience, all sentences should have a clear purpose before you write words.

This helps your readers read faster, understands better, and sticks with you more. It’s also how you achieve a style all your own.

Provide clarity and consistency

Writing good copy means ensuring that your message is clear and convincing. You will want to convince readers to take action in some form or another – whether it’s buying what you sell, signing up for a newsletter, sharing your story with them, etc.

You will need to make your voice heard, so audience building is an important step.

Audience building involves things like getting familiar with who they are, what they care about, and where they are coming from. Once you know how to reach out to these people, you’ll have to figure out which techniques work best for them.

There are lots of ways to get more engagement from your readers, but all lead back to one thing: can they read? If they can, then there’s no reason not to use text.

If you’re trying to build trust or rapport, maybe start by telling a story. A story tells a listener immediately around, making the storyline compelling and easy to follow.

Then, when you write your article or blog post, think about each word and its purpose. The way you lay out information should be interesting and informative, taking into account who you are writing to.

At the end, you should have a brief statement that summarizes the main point and asks the reader to do something.

Focus on what? Customer service

If you’re not sure if your writing skills are helping you in the job you have, think about how you would interact with other people.

If you’re good at it, there will be no problem interacting with customers (or colleagues) to get them involved in your products or services.

This is because they will feel confident in their relationship with you and trust that what you are telling them is true.

This creates trust immediately. Your reader will know that they can communicate with you.

They will feel comfortable asking you questions.

They will understand what you are saying.
